Honoring Our Residents

May is known as a month of celebrations. From graduations to Memorial Day, there are celebrations sprinkled throughout the month that bring together people of all ages and walks of life.

During May at The Village at Germantown, we are reminded of the important roles many of our residents have played throughout their lifetimes. If you walk into any resident’s room or look at the pictures hung up outside their doors in the halls, you quickly see the important people, places, and experiences that have shaped the lives of each resident at The Village.

Honoring Mothers

At The Village, we are home to so many mothers, grandmothers, and even great-grandmothers! While we have visitors come see their mothers all the time, Mother’s Day has an added element of celebration to it.

This year, we are hosting a few events to keep the day fun and festive. On Mother’s Day, we will host Sunday brunch, followed by a screening of the movie Mothers and Daughters in our theater. Later in the day, we will host our weekly Wii bowling, plus a Vespers Service led by Deacon Dave Lucchesi.

Along with these fun events, Mother’s Day will be another wonderful day to stroll the grounds at The Village, taking in the beautiful gardens and meditation spaces. There is a fun way to celebrate for all the special mothers in our community.

Honoring the Military

At the end of the month, we will celebrate Memorial Day. The Village is honored to call a number of its residents former military members, serving their country dutifully and bravely.

To show our appreciation for our residents who once served, and especially in memory of those who lost their lives serving, The Village will be hosting a Memorial Day Program. During the program, we will hear from our residents who served, take time to remember those who were lost in the line of duty, and celebrate the freedoms we are so lucky to enjoy today.

Honoring All Of Our Residents: Older Americans Month

Did you know that May is also Older Americans Month? That means we get to celebrate our residents even more than we already do!

According to the Older Americans Month website, older Americans today are “taking charge, striving for wellness, focusing on independence, and advocating for themselves and others.” These qualities are all certainly true of our residents.

The website also outlines the following calls to action for Older Americans:

  • Know Your Rights
  • Stay Engaged
  • Strive for Wellness
  • Explore New Things

The Village at Germantown is a perfect place to do all of these things. By giving residents opportunities to connect with others, try out new activities, better their health, and explore new ideas, The Village keeps its residents feeling great and embracing this chapter of life. How Do You Honor Your Loved Ones?

At The Village at Germantown, we create a community that is accepting, loving, and celebratory all year long. This month highlights just a few of the ways we can all come together and be reminded of the many ways our residents have touched and continue to touch our lives.

If you have a loved one at The Village, how will you celebrate with us? Share your photos with us by either sending us an email or tagging us on Facebook. We would love to hear more about your family and how you celebrate together.

We are so grateful for our residents! Cheers to another wonderful month of fun at The Village.
